Why should you record in BandLab?
Recording your music on BandLab is super handy and has a bunch of perks compared to other software, making it a great pick for musicians at any level. First off, it's FREE, which beats 99% of all digital audio workstation (DAWs). BandLab is cloud-based, so you can easily collaborate with other artists and access your projects from any device with internet. Its user-friendly interface makes recording a breeze, and it comes packed with a ton of built-in tools, effects, and virtual instruments for all kinds of musical styles. Plus, BandLab lets you create unlimited projects and offers unlimited storage, which is a big plus over many other DAWs that have restrictions. The platform also has social features, so you can share your work and get feedback from a lively community, boosting your creative experience.
Duplicate the Project
In your Library, find Vocal Template.
Click the three-dot menu (⋮) on its tile and choose Duplicate.
Open the new copy and rename it to your new project name.
Set Up Mic, AutoPitch & BPM
Plug in your mic.
At the bottom left of the screen, click AutoPitch.
Under Input, select your mic.
To the right of that panel, use the AutoPitch controls to set your scale and note (the correct key).
Click the BPM readout in the transport bar and enter the BPM from your beat.
Record Main Vocals with Alternating Take Lanes
Add 2 voice/audio tracks called Take Lane 1 and Take Lane 2.
Choose a preset from the effects button
Click Take Lane 1 to highlight it, then press Record in the transport bar.
Perform your first bar, then press Stop.
Click Take Lane 2 to highlight it, then press Record for the next bar.
Continue toggling between Lane 1 and Lane 2—record one bar per lane—until the song is complete.
For the chorus, copy-paste your completed hook lanes as needed.
Record Adlibs
Click the Adlib take lane to highlight it (only one lane).
Press Record and perform all your adlibs in one continuous take.
Press Stop when finished.
Add Me as a Collaborator
In the top-left corner, click Project > Collaborators.
Enter your producer's email and click Add. (Check out my mix/mastering service if you haven't!)
The producer can then accept the invite and pull your comped main-vocal lanes and ad-lib track as stems.
